Greetings and welcome to music theory, a course where you will learn about the mechanics of writing music. this class is intended for the musician who already reads notation and has some experience playing an instrument. each student will spend time analyzing music as well as experimenting with his or her own short compositions.
The course is designed with a short lesson that instructs and then a corresponding assignment to reinforce and assess your understanding of the material. some assignments you will be able to do on the computer and email directly to me at my email address. others will require you to print the assignment and send it snail mail. periodically, you will need to write short compositions. use the staff paper provided or you may purchase your own at a music store.
Successful completion of this course includes finishing all assignments as well as presenting at least one of your own compositions at the final meeting. students will earn a number grade of one (1) to four(4) for each assignment.
