Ludwig van Beethoven

This assignment is as much as a history lesson as a music lesson.  Beethoven lived during a turbulent time in American history and was associated with American contemporaries that traveled abroad, most notably Benjamin Franklin.

Your assignment is to create two timelines.  One of Beethoven's life and the other, events in American history that coincide with significant events in Beethoven's life.  They should be presented one above the other with appropriate listings lining up with each other.  There must be at least one entry for each five years on each time line.  (The entry does not have to be on the five year mark, but use the guideline as a minimum.) You may use a computer (preferable) or do the assignment on a poster if computer application is unavailable.  This assignment should be approached as if you will present it at our final meeting.

Resources available to you are internet sites, the library and various history texts.

Evaluation

In order to earn an "A" the timelines should begin at Beethoven's birth and end with his death.  The information must be clearly presented and should include major events in Beethoven's life as well as important dates in American history.
