Johann Sebastian Bach is probably the most influential composer of all time.  It is his conventions that gave form to all who followed behind.

Your assignment:

    Write a 3-5 page biography of Bach's life. 

    Your complete, typed paper should include:

· birth and death dates

· places where Bach lived

· who he married and other familial information

· for whom did he work

· what kind of music did he write
    include:    instrumentation
                   in what venues was it performed
                   how many pieces of music did he write
                   who performed his music
                   how is is catalogued

· your thoughts on Bach's music
    include:    to what music did you listen
                   did you like it, why or why not

Evaluation

    An "A" paper will be typed, use effective English conventions and have correct spelling.  In addition, it will include all of the elements listed in some depth.  Through your writing there will be evidence that you spent time listening to Bach's music and have some familiarity with his stylistic elements.
